We received an invitation for the 2025 Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance World Masters Baduk | World Division preliminary. This is a qualifying event for the "Samsung Cup", a very famous international tournament with the world top players.

European players are invited to register to the qualifying stage "world division".
It will be played in Seoul, Korean Baduk Association building, from August 19 to 24th.
Organisers provide 1000$ for accommodation.
Registration deadline is July 20th.

The timing is extremely short, we are very sorry for this but have to do with it. So please-please-please convey the message as soon as possible to your members.

For information, last year, our European participants were kyu to 6d players. It is recommended to be 5d+ to have a chance to win, though.

2025 European Student Go Championship - Oct. 11-12, UK

We are pleased to announce that the 2025 European Student Go Championship will take place on October 11-12th in the historical city of Durham in the UK!
More specifically, the playing site will be the splendid university of Durham, and many activities are planned to make the tournament not only a go challenge qualifying for the World student go OZA championship in Japan, but also a walk in history, full of discoveries and social moments.

If you're wanting cheaper accommodation for the tournament, we've arranged a group booking for entrants:
- 2 nights (Friday and Saturday)
- £75 per person
- 3 people per shared room (3 beds)

If you would like to take advantage of this, please let me know in the next couple of weeks - these places will not be available if you don't let us know in advance!

Things to note:
- £75 per person assumes we get 3 people per room - there's a risk that this might increase if we don't get enough interest and some beds aren't taken.

1st Hong Kong International Invitation Tournament

Dates: 13-16 February, 2026
Registration deadline: 25 January, 2026
Venue: Buddhist Tai Kwong Chi Hong College, Hong Kong
Groups: Open (5 dan and above), 3-4 Dan, 1-2 Dan, 1-5 Kyu and 6-10 Kyu divisions
Format: Chinese Rules, Swiss System, 7 rounds for Open Division and 5 rounds for other divisions.
Schedule, Fees, Prizes: vary by the group; please refer to the Invitation

Important to consider, there is no travel support from the EGF for attending this tournament.

If players are interested, please advise them to formally express their interest by email addressed to oksana at eurogofed.org by January 23, 2026, 23:59, with attaching the filled in application form to their email. Should we receive a significant number of applications, preference will be given based on current ranking.

Here is an important update regarding the European Youth Go Championship. I kindly ask you to read this message carefully and to share it with all members of your youth community.

Last week, we learned that after an extended pause, the prestigious competition – the GLOBIS Cup – will again be organized by the Nihon Ki-in this year. The 11th GLOBIS Cup will be held in late June 2026 in Tokyo, Japan. The EGF has received an invitation to nominate one player to represent Europe. The most important conditions include:

age: all players must be under 22 years of age (= 21 years old or younger) as of January 1, 2026;
compensation: accommodation and meals are covered by the organizers, and 50% of the airline ticket is subsidized.
Note: If the player is under 18 years old, the Nihon Ki-in will also cover the accommodation and meal expenses of one accompanying person; however, the accompanying person will be responsible for their own flight costs.

As such, the EGF Board decided tonight that the tournament used to select the European representative will be the European Youth Go Championship. In order to accommodate the selection and respect the criteria, it was additionally decided that the “oldest” age group will be changed from U20 to U21. This fully aligns with our age cut-off date of January 1st of the respective year, while at the same time giving the strongest players the opportunity to compete for a spot in one of the most prestigious youth events in the world. The winner of the U21 group will be invited to represent the EGF in the 11th GLOBIS Cup.

Please note that the deadline to submit an application for the 11th GLOBIS Cup is March 30, 2026, which is the Monday following the EYGC. Therefore, the winner will need to make a decision regarding their willingness to participate almost immediately.

Given that the deadline for early-bird registration for the EYGC is in just a few days, an extension to pay the reduced fee will be granted to those who are eligible under the new age-group criteria but were not eligible previously and who decide to register after this change.
